Our approach

Yilkins is an enabling company that develops high-end technologies; our goal is to provide integrated and sustainable solutions that respond adequately to the specific needs and challenges of our customers. All of this while significantly creating sustainable impact on the world and lessening the global dependence from fossil energy.

Sustainable sources, high-value solutions

Yilkins is highly specialized in a variety of technical processes, such as drying, separation, combustion, torrefaction, pyrolysis and gasification. We use our expertise and commercial experience to create profitable circularity and integrated high-value solutions, in which primary resources eg. biomass and organic materials are upgraded into sustainable products like biofuels, energy, heat, cooling or bio-based chemical feedstocks.

Small scale on a global scale

Yilkins’ devices and integrated plants are ideal for small-scale projects – a real game-changer in our sector! In fact, our plans are built semi-transportable which allows for easy transportation to our clients and opens up new ways of financing projects, too. All Yilkins equipment is designed in such way it operates with low energy consumption, low operational costs, prevention of waste streams and a minimum requirement on external utilities. With its integral “local for local” approach, Yilkins offers an opportunity for entrepreneurs, public institutions and local authorities who are looking to implement and produce energy within their communities, in a multilevel sustainable way; better logistics, better operations and better financial, social and environmental contributions.
This is what Yilkins stands for.

Circular economy on local scale

Yilkins has a strong believe in local economies. Local entrepeneurs, institutions and authorities can provide for their community with sustainable ways to produce energy. They can use their own resources strategically to solve technical and economical needs.  Such a circular economy provides long-term benefits, the use of residues and a constant economic growth. It also offers communal independency and decreases impact on the environment.

Learning by doing

At Yilkins we do not sit back. To make all these technical processes possible, we build and construct constantly new high-grade installations. We are critical about our assumptions and approaches and listen to the need of our clients. In doing so, our installations and concepts become even more sustainable and efficient. By constantly testing and examine our ideas we stay sharp and focused. Learning by doing. In this way, we are able to gather knowledge, skills and new insights about innovative technologies. All this makes us deploy the power of nature intelligently.

Patrick Bergman

  • Former project manager Research & Development
  • Consultant in design and optimization of biomass processes
  • “Think and do” in all thermal conversion processes
  • Authority in the field of torrefaction and gasification

Patrick brings to Yilkins 15 years’ experience in the development and operation of biomass conversion and waste treatment technologies. He represents the “Thinking & Doing” in applying biomass upgrading and cascading technologies: torrefaction, pyrolysis, gasification and combustion, distinguish him from the mainstream. He underwent his learning curve, starting at ECN, reigniting and driving torrefaction research, through his consultancy period, during which he conceptualized and optimizied the biomass cascading processes and later at a biomass conversion company: redesigning and demonstrating with his R&D team the operations of an 8kt/hr torrefaction process plant. His educational background combined with his hands-on practical approach, make him one of the top authorities in the field.

Rob Boers

 Installation & Operations

  • Former project manager (pellet and processing technology)
  • Practical experience in building and commissioning of drying, pelletizing, torrefaction, gasification and recycling plants.

Rob Boers has over 30 year of experience in construction, erection, commissioning and maintenance in the field of waste treatment and thermal processes. He has been involved in several thermal biomass projects based on gasification, drying and torrefation, where he was responsible for assembling the facilities. Previously he held a position in Munich (Germany), where he was responsible for the improvement of grinding and densification (pellet press) technology. Rob is a major force in getting plants into operation and knows the details that create success. He has a very wide network of equipment’s suppliers and manufacturers and knows the best in the market. He is very practical and considered to be our factotum.

Ares Driessen

 Project Management

  • Research experience in biomass processing in several academic projects
  • Practical experience as process technician in several companies

Jan Oltvoort studied Chemical engineering at the University of Twente and during his internship, he was working with Patrick to further develop the debottlenecking of the torrefaction process. Jan has proven to be a valuable force in the R&D and design of the Yilkins technology scope. In addition, he recently had a position in the field of small-scale combustion of biomass. He has a very analytical mind, but can also “feel” the phenomena he’s dealing with. Jan shares the passion of the Yilkins business concept and has the natural tendency to be exited to bring biomass conversion to the next stage in the energy transition.
